Yes, not only do we give our thoughts about the second round of the playoffs but we also give you a taste of our in-game broadcasting skills (spoiler alert, they need a lot of work). While the boys discuss the best of the playoffs so far, they also gave a live rendition of what ended up being an incredibly exciting game between the Raptors and the Celtics. In case that’s not enough, you might want to stick around to hear Raf opening up about what gets to him when he’s away from home when he’s on a business trip.
If one thing has been clear throughout this time is that Rafael is very critical of Carmelo Anthony BUT the day when our very own Raf might get a Carmelo Anthony jersey is nigh! On today’s episode, Rod and Raf discuss the exciting race to the 8th in the West, the undefeated Suns, the disappointing Grizzlies, and of course, Damian Lillard’s great performance. The boys also discuss if the Bucks, Lakers, and Clippers fans should be concerned since their teams are not dominating in the bubble and last but certainly not least, Rod and Raf share their picks for this season’s NBA Awards.
Prepare for bubble and make it double!
To protect the sports world from boredom!
To unite all Lebron fans and haters!
To denounce the evils of the Kings and Wiz!
To extend our reach to #NBATwitter!
Team Dropping Dimes dropping an episode at the speed of light!
Check it out now, or prepare to fight!
The NBA Bubble has started and with that, we’re back to discuss the top teams on each conference as well as the race for the 8th spot on the West. As expected, Rod loses it a little when discussing the Lakers and Raf also kind of loses it when discussing the Blazers, check out what the boys have to say about the return of the NBA!
The NBA is back, the CEBL is back and the boys are back! Rod and Raf discuss the NBA’s bubble, what the rest of the season will look like, the play-in tournament for the 8th seed, and how the hiatus in play might have affected the players. The guys also take some time to review Vince Carter’s career and legacy, do you think Vince’s #15 should be the first jersey the Raptors retire? Finally, the boys take a look at the CEBL’s Summer Series and talk about their support to the Fraser Valley Bandits.
*Correction: the CEBL Summer Series will tip off July 25th. Training camp is scheduled for July 15th
In honour of our 2-year anniversary, we decided to pick our two favourite players at each position. In classic Dropping Dimes fashion, the boys discuss their picks for their top two players at each of the five positions (with some honourable mentions, of course). Thank you all again for all your love and support! Let us know who are your top two at each position on the comments below!
We already miss the Last Dance and we’re sure you miss it as well so, in honour of this fantastic documentary-series, we revisit the last four episodes of the docuseries. Rod and Raf discuss Pippen’s season in charge, how Steve Kerr handled the whole getting punch in the face situation, Michael’s comeback, and whether the Bulls would have been able to go for title #7 had they stayed together.
The Last Dance has definitely filled the basketball void in all of our lives and we needed to talk about it. In this episode, Rod and Raf discuss the six episodes that have come out so far. The boys discuss Jerry Krause’s legacy, MJ’s competitiveness, Pippen’s career, Rodman’s place in the NBA, that juicy rivalry between the Bulls and the Pistons, MJ’s deal with Nike and how shoe culture changed forever and way more! Sit back and enjoy the episode in preparation for episodes 7 and 8.
We had the absolute pleasure of chatting with producer, director, writer, podcaster, analyst, storyteller, and dare we say pioneer of media basketball in Canada. The one and only Duane Watson!!! Over the course of our conversation, we had a chance to get to know Duane a lot more through basketball of course, for instance, we talked about his favourite team growing up, which player he most identifies with, his most prized basketball possession and more.
We then took Duane on a trip down memory lane to revisit his basketball journey, how he got to write for Hoop and SLAM, his first interviews with Canadian NBA players, his work with Raptors. Heck, we even talked about Duane being a road manager for a hip-hop band on a tour!
On the third section of the show we talked about Duane’s most recent projects, including Crown League and ‘Nique (which btw, you should subscribe right now). We then finished off our chat with a not-so-fast lightning round where we got Duane to pick between some touch choices.
We say this time and time again but really, trust us, this is an episode that you don’t want to miss!
On this week’s edition of The Weekly Dime we are joined by commissioner and coach of RBL Basketball, Blake Poritz! On the first half of the show we talked about the growth of youth basketball in Vancouver, the effects of COVID-19 on basketball players and what kind of activities we can all do to keep active, and practice dribbling, shooting, etc.
On the second half of the show, we talked about the 2020 class of the Hall of Fame that includes Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Tamika Catchings and a few legendary coaches. We then discussed which player (from any era) would we pick for a HORSE tournament, who we think is best ISO player ever, and which NBA players (active and retired) would we like to spend quarantine with.
%FGM, Off REB., +/-, STL%, you’ve probably seen or at least heard about stats and the stats movement in the NBA and this week’s guest Dr. Rodrigo Vargas Hernandez joins us to shed a bit more light into science in basketball as well as data analytics and machine learning in the NBA. In the first section of the show, we get to know Dr. Vargas and his love for basketball and the Chicago Bulls. We then jumped right into science, how is basketball affected in every moment by science and how do advanced analytics and machine learning are being currently used by almost all NBA teams. We also discuss a scientific paper on basketball written by Andrew Miller, Luke Bornn, Ryan Adams, and Kirk Goldsberry. Last but certainly not least, we tried to predict the future of basketball (using science, of course!)
