Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Clipper bros and Beantown boys, you’re in for a treat this week. On the second episode of the Dropping Dimes’ Two Cents Show, we had the chance to talk with one and only, J.E. Skeets from the No Dunks podcast on The Athletic!
On the first section of the show, we got to know Skeets a bit more from a basketball perspective, his favourite shoes, his first jersey, etc. We then talked about Canada Basketball and the chances of Team Canada making it to the Olympics and the current class of Canadians in the NBA. We also asked Skeets some questions about his Toronto Raptors and played a little game called “Why can’t we be friends”.
Close to the end of the show, we followed up with Skeets on the No Dunks Squad episode and asked him if he had the chance to have a new NBA franchise in Vancouver what would he name the team, what the uniform might look like, what concession stand item would be sold in the arena and who would be the celebrity ambassador.
Trust us, you definitely do not want to miss out on this episode!
The Rucker Park Tournament, the Drew League, the Venice Beach League, the Seattle Pro-Am, you’ve probably heard about these summer pro-am leagues but have you heard about the Dolphin Basketball Classic? On its 34th edition, the Dolphin gathers Vancouver’s top talent and manages to draw players from other provinces and even from Div 1 schools in the US for a fun two and a half day tournament while engaging with the local community. This is all the result of a group of hard working friends who 30+ years ago decided to start a tournament in their local park and this same group of friends is still the driving force behind the Dolphin Basketball Classic. If you want to hear more about Vancouver’s own summer basketball classic, you don’t want to miss this episode.
For our 30th episode, we decided to bring two special guests, Adrian and Jay Bryan from The Bryan Brothers podcast! Adrian and Jay joined Rod and Evans on a Raptors Extravaganza! The guys discussed all the major events from the Raptors season that led to the Championship. Check in for what will be an instant classic for all things Raptors, Toronto, and to to learn more on our affection for Cactus Club.
Oooooo Canada!!! The Toronto Raptors shocked the NBA world and are in the NBA Finals! On this episode, Rod and Evans are joined by coach Clay and coach Alfred from HD Training and by our friend, Remo to talk about the All-NBA teams, were the selections fair or were there any snubs? And, of course, we discuss game 6 of the Bucks-Raptors series what the finals match-ups might look like and we also discuss…if Vancouver gets an NBA team are the Raptors still Canada’s team?
What do you guys think, should coach Clay wear a Raptors jersey if Toronto wins it all?
We’ve said it before but this time is 100% real, this episode is an ABSOLUTE CLASSIC. We were joined by two very special guests, Christina Edgar and Hal Oreck, both former Vancouver Grizzlies employees. Christina and Hal shared a ton of stories with us! Who was their favourite player in the Grizzlies, the behind the scenes at games, meeting other NBA superstars, getting bumped in the head (by accident) by Shawn Bradley and more! Trust us, this episode is an instant classic.
Over the weekend we had the absolute honour to attend Night Hoops’ Skills Competition and Social Night where we got a chance to learn more about this fantastic organization and everything the Night Hoops crew does to positively impact the youth in Metro Vancouver through basketball. Check out all the interviews we gathered during this fun event with Night Hoops Business Development Manager, Chad Cowles, Night Hoops Board Member, Jade Christie, local hoops legend, Clay Crellin, and Night Hoops Program coordinator Curtis Allembi.
On this very special episode of Dropping Dimes, we are joined by award winning, Vancouverite film-maker and the director, writer, producer and co-star of Finding Big Country, Kay Jayme! We had a great time with Kat, we asked her more details about her passion for basketball, her favourite shoe growing up, favourite Grizzlies player, her favourite WNBA player and more.
We also asked Kat about her motivation behind Finding Big Country, her introduction at the Vancouver Film Festival, and we even made a case for Kat to be part of the organization once the Grizzlies come back to Vancouver!
Definitely a classic episode that you won’t want to miss!

Here’s the thing about doing a podcast. It is awesome! But it’s not as easy as it migh look (sound?) Regardless, Raf and I are having a blast with this project and we hope you guys are having as much as we are!
On this week’s episode we talk about some of the exciting basketball events that are coming to Vancouver next week in preparation for the NBA’s pre-season. One of them, the premiere of “Finding Big Country“! An amazing story from the perspective of a superfan of the Vancouver Grizzlies and her quest to find her childhood hero, Bryant “Big Country” Reeves.
We also end up talking about And 1, Nike’s latest campaign, and Rod goes on a rant on how Foot Locker Canada is not living up to expectation. Enjoy!
